My wife and I received inspiration that we needed to adopt a girl with Down syndrome. Her name is Abigail Lili JOY Turpin. These are the chronicles of finding and having Joy!

This is what we are working on – she is making great progress!
Yesterday was her 6 month re-eval for ECI. Once she is walking and coming down the stairs, she will no longer get OT. Her developmental services has been increased to three times a month. The term “high functioning” was used to describe our sweet Joy! We had to make goals for the next year. We are getting ready for school – wow!
Joy went to the dentist today. My good friend took her – I am so grateful! She took some pictures on her phone – enjoy!
Waiting for my turn….
What are you doing to me??
Jessi, Joy, and our wonderful dentist, Dr. Lewis
Joy put together three words/signs to create her first sentence!
Jason was cooking dinner. He had given Joy an apple to eat while she waited. She finished that apple. She crawled over to him and then said, “Daddy”, then pointed at herself, and then signed and said “more.” So…… Daddy, I want more!
Cute girl! All of her breakthroughs seem to be food related! :)
I can no longer put Joy to bed. It’s probably stems from the fact that I’m not around when she wakes up in the morning. She misses me and gets so sad. I feel horrible when I see her face so clearly showing me her emotions. She hides nothing. When she is happy, she is totally happy. When she is sad, she is totally sad.
Her Daddy puts her to bed every night now. They have a story and rock together for a while. Then he puts her in bed and tucks her in. They have a routine. He lays her down, then puts the ladybug blanket my Mom made on top of her. Then he takes her favorite green blanket and places it on top of her. He starts at her armpits and tucks while he says, “tuck, tuck.” He works down her body tucking her in while saying “tuck, tuck.”
Last night as he was rocking her, Jason asked her if she was ready for bed. She answered him by touching just under her arms near her arm pits and saying, “tuck, tuck.” Ahhh…..
Watching her speech develop is so cute!
We went to the neighborhood Easter event to let the kids have an Easter egg hunt.
Joy was helped by Becca and they found a special egg that gives her a Chocolate bunny.
Joy now has a new love in her life!
Just don't take it away.
I have been wanting to take my family down to Herman Park for a while and decided to take the day off and bring them down.
We ended up dropping Shelly and Bella off at Texas Children’s, go see Bella’s blog for the details.
We went to see the Japanese gardens and play. so here are the pictures and the videos:
Guess who used her first intentional sign last night???!!!!!!?!?!?!
Last night I had a smoothie from Sonic and Joy saw it. She wanted some of that goodness. I gave her a sip. But she wanted more! And she SIGNED “more!!” I was so excited!!! Her first intentional sign!
She signs “all done” after eating, but I have to sign it first and then she’ll repeat it.
Yeah, Joy!!
